RCMP RELEASE:
On May 28, 2024, at approximately 12:45 a.m., Smoky Lake RCMP received a call of a 2-vehicle collision at Highway 28 and Range Road 130 in the County of Smoky Lake. Smoky Lake RCMP responded immediately.
Though the matter is still under investigation, preliminary findings suggest that a SUV, driving at a high rate of speed on Range Road 130, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a sedan that was travelling East on Highway 28. The driver of the sedan, a 39-year-old female resident of Cold Lake, Alta., was pronounced deceased on scene and the passenger, a 36-year-old male resident of Meadow Lake, SK, who was transported to the hospital by STARS, was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the SUV was brought to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries while the two passengers were transported with varying levels of injuries. Alcohol and/or drugs are suspected to be a factor in the collision.
The thoughts of the Alberta RCMP are with the family and friends of the deceased.
The matter is still under investigation and a release is anticipated once more information becomes available.
